Does Solar Suit Your Business
There are a lot of things to think about when considering commercial solar energy. Here are a few questions to help you decide:
Room to spare?
It is important to make sure you have enough roof space for a solar installation. You can get about 50kW of installed solar capacity for every 6,000 square feet of usable roof space.
Is your roof tough enough?
Even if you have a large amount of roof space you need to ensure your roof is stable and can hold the weight of the solar solution. You'll need a structure that can support a minimum of 7 lbs per sq ft of excess load on the roof. If you're wondering if your roof is suitable for a solar installation, you can start by answering three basic questions. Has your roof been repaired or replaced in the last 10 years? Is it leak free? Was your facility built to minimum code? You may or may not be the best candidate for a rooftop installation, however we won't know for sure until we have a structural engineer conduct a structural analysis. In this analysis we have to prove that your facility has enough excess capacity to withstand the additional load of a solar installation.
Is it in the budget?
Your company needs to have the financial means to commit to solar energy and usually at least 50% of the total solar installation cost in cash. Solar economics are better in states with higher utility rates and better rebates and incentives. That being said, you can do solar anywhere and no matter where you are, we're happy to help.
