Tours at Kearney solar array held to celebrate 'Bird- and Pollinator-Friendly Day'
KEARNEY — Tours from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kearney solar array at Antelope Avenue and East 56th Street will celebrate the city- proclaimed “Bird- and Pollinator-Friendly Solar Day.”
The project, the largest of its kind in Nebraska, is a collaboration of the city of Kearney, Nebraska Public Power District and SoCore Energy.
The 53-acre site has been landscaped with bird- and pollinator-friendly plants such as purple prairieclover, scarlet globemallow, aromatic aster and dwarf goldenrod.
Participants in the tour will have opportunities to assemble boxes for native bees and broadcast a seed mix with assistance from Kearney Outdoor Learning Area high school students.
